RuralMUN Oscos-Eo
Delegation preparation sheet
A practical guide to arrive at the sessions with your country, arguments and objectives clear.
Prepare before the event
01 · Your role
First, get oriented
When you receive your assignment, fill in these details.
Country: __________________
Committee: ________________
Role: ___________________
Topic: __________________
02 · Know your country
Research before forming an opinion
- Geography and population
- Political and economic system
- Your country's situation regarding the topic
- National policies and priorities
- Relevant agreements, treaties or organisations
- Your country's recent position and actions at the UN
03 · Understand the topic
Build a solid foundation
- First read the documents provided by RuralMUN.
- Identify the problem and why it matters.
- Find reliable data and sources.
- Distinguish facts, proposals and opinions.
- Find out what solutions have already been proposed.
04 · Define your position
Think like your delegation
In your own words, write a summary of the position you will defend.
Main position:
______________________________________________
______________________________________________
Priority 1: ________________
Priority 2: ________________
Priority 3: ________________
What can my delegation not accept?
______________________________________________
______________________________________________
05 · Prepare to negotiate
Look for partners, not just rivals
- Which countries may share your position?
- Who do you need to negotiate with?
- What are you willing to modify?
- Which proposals from other delegations could you support?
- Which solutions could bring more countries together?
06 · Prepare to speak
Your voice is part of the work
- Prepare a brief and clear opening statement.
- Have three main arguments ready.
- Think of a response to an opposing position.
- Practise aloud, calmly, without reading everything.
Your goal in the MUN
Defend your country's position, understand others' positions and work to build agreements. It is not simply about winning a debate: it is about helping a proposal move forward and gather support.
